Building Owners
Building owners, architects and engineers have a unique set of questions related to fire codes, fire responses and the liability surrounding required emergent responses.
Building Owners, Developers, Architects and Engineer Support
Building owners, developers, architects and engineers have reached out to FAC advocates have worked with numerous professionals in the building and construction industry to educate them on the topics of fire codes and fire response. Professionals building any structure must consider liability and risk management in the planning stages, most especially in large size structures where escape and fire response can be challenging.
Protecting citizens and the public in any building involves risk reduction. Large-scale strctures become increasingly challenging in the development and planning stages.
Preplanning
Fire departments charged with protecting these structures must recognize that these buildings present many serious challenges. Significant planning needs to be done well ahead of time, before the emergency call comes in, preferably before any shovel hits the ground. Building owners many times reach out to fire departments and fire service experts to have a seat at the table to ensure the fire department needs are addressed in the planning stages of the structre.
When those conversations occur, FAC advocates have helped professionals developing the structure to understand the hazards and challenges that could be involved in the fire response. normal size building has plenty of hazards to be aware of and operational strategies to consider, but the big-box structure takes planning to another level.
Proper preplanning prevents poor performance and can make the difference between success and failure and the risks and liability associated with “what went wrong.”
Building management and contractors need to understand the needs of the first responder agencies as the building plans are drafted – not after.
